A Sprouting Mystery

Good news!  I found sprouts inside my garden plot!!!

Bad news... none of those sprouts look anything like the onion and carrot seedlings that I've ever seen.  You'll also notice that you can find the exact same type of plant sprouting off to the sides of the plastic containers.  Ugh.

You'd probably expect me to pluck them out, right?  Yeah, I'd normally expect to do that, as well.  I can't help but wonder, however, what exactly those sprouts are.  They could be weeds, but they could also be something that had been planted by the last people to rent this house.  At this point, it's a mystery.

With the additional sprouts outside the containment area, however, this isn't a particularly valid reason to leave them there.  That brings me to reason 2.

Plucking them may disrupt the carrot and onion seeds if they're already starting to germinate.  In the case of the carrots, this could cause some pretty nasty results, like the L-shaped root I mentioned previously.  While such a carrot would still be edible, it'd be rather difficult to pluck from the ground.

I'm going to be patient.  Just because the carrots and onions haven't sprouted yet doesn't mean that they won't.  Today is only day seven, after all, and even though they're in a makeshift greenhouse environment doesn't mean they'll sprout at normal times.

Our society is prone to wanting things done now, and life doesn't always work that way.  Patience, in this case, is definitely a virtue.
