Hardy Hostas

I'm happy to announce that my hostas are growing successfully!

While I knew that root transplants could be easily grown, that they are black walnut tolerant, and that hostas love the shade, I was still concerned.  I was planting at the base of a tree, after all, and the tree was growing on a steep slope.  This caused me to be concerned about whether or not there was enough available space, and made me nervous that the dirt I added would drain too easily, causing my new plantings to dry out.

Sometimes I worry too much.

As you can see, the leaves are beginning to open.  This is happening at a much slower rate than the hostas that have matured along the side of the house, but that's to be expected.  They are recent transplants, after all!

I now believe it's time for round 2: A slightly longer tier immediately below this one.  This is where I'll plant a few edibles.  Peppermint is one thing that'll be placed here.  I'm still trying to decide on the rest.  Perhaps basil.  That's one plant I've always adored.

Time to collect more rocks!
